Timeline

2001

W Capital is founded, pioneering the market for providing exit flexibility for private equity shareholders.

2003

Provides regenerative role in the strategic venture capital market according to PE industry press,  after completing five portfolio purchases from leading technology and Fortune 500 companies.

2004

Closes W Capital Partners, L.P. at $250 million, raising capital from leading global endowments, foundations, pension plans, investment banks and family offices. Fund completes 30 transactions over its investment period.

2006

Introduces purchase of minority equity investment option for control GPs seeking to monetize part of a business and realize a partial gain, while providing extended years for growth prior to exit.

2007

Closes W Capital Partners II, L.P. at $700 million. Fund enables W Capital to provide larger and more comprehensive primary and secondary capital solutions for private equity shareholders and growing portfolio companies. Fund completes 32 transactions over its investment period.

2009

Offers differentiated source of flexible capital during financial crisis by providing shareholder liquidity to financial institutions, lenders, GPs and company founders.

Accomplishes one of the industry’s first fund restructurings addressing growing need for recapitalizing end-of-life partnerships by purchasing an LP interest from the majority LP in a fund and amending LPA for improved GP and LP alignment.


2011

Through our 10 year anniversary, we have completed more than 15 IPOs and 25 M&A exits. Our IPOs include: Ancestry.com, Blackboard, Click Commerce, Cryocor, Cyclacel, Demand Media, Ellie Mae, Financial Engines, GreenDot, Infinera, Internet Brands, LoopNet, Medidata, OpenTable, Pandora Media, QuinStreet, Riskmetrics and Vanguard Health.

2013

Closes W Capital Partners III at $750 million enabling firm to continue to provide solutions to private equity investors and our portfolio companies.

Invests $1 billion in total capital since inception by completing more than 70 liquidity-driven transactions with a long list of referenceable counterparties including leading worldwide general partners, financial institutions and founders.
